Selahattin Karagöz is among founding members of Interreal. He works as a Research Assistant in the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Ege University’s Faculty of Letters . His academic journey reflects a deep engagement with the interplay between language, culture and technology. He earned his M.A. from İstanbul University with his thesis on the translation of horror literature into Turkish with a particular focus on the atmospheric and linguistic nuances of H.P. Lovecraft’s works. He holds a Ph.D. from Yıldız Technical University, where he authored a pioneering dissertation on the game localization production networks in Turkey.

Dr. Karagöz’s research portfolio bridges diverse disciplines, including game culture studies, game localization, translation sociology and the dynamic interrelation of gamification and translation. His work further interrogates the monetization of fan labor within virtual communities, highlighting the evolving role of participatory culture in digital environments. Passionate about exploring the transformative potential of non-professional translation, he examines how it reshapes player immersion, engagement and the global narratives woven through gaming.
